Best sky-bars in Bangkok

No visit to Bangkok can be called complete without a trip to the rooftop of a skyscraper for a nibble and a cocktail in a sky-bar. The Bangkok skyline is filled with skyscrapers and to make the most of the space, entrepreneurs here have fully embraced the rooftop bar idea. It’s a nice way to cool off in the breeze after a long day of sightseeing with a cold drink in hand and an amazing view in front. Most are pretty exclusive and cater mainly to tourists, Thai high-society and businessmen looking to conclude a deal in an impressive setting. Some however cater to completely different crowds, some hipster, some simply hip. The thing they have in common is a sense of appreciation for nice interior design and gorgeous views. Going there for sunset can be very rewarding as the sun fades into the neon glow and shining lights of Bangkok revealing the hum and throb of a city that never sleeps. In order to make your life easier as a visitor to Bangkok, we have compiled this handy list of some our favourite spots.

With a huge golden dome, a 360 degree bar and an appearance in the Hangover movies, this bar is one of the most fancy and famous in town. Try the Hangovertini, a delicious blend of apple juice, green tea liquor, Martini Rosso and rosemary honey. Sounds good right? If you haven’t seen the movie and it’s not a priority to try the Hangovertini, then come here simply to enjoy the fantastic panorama. The bar will generally be packed, lots of people come here to show off with expensive drinks to take the iconic Skybar selfie.

Compared to the previous bar, the Skybar in the Lebua State Tower, the Vertigo rooftop bar, situated at the Banyan Tree Bangkok is way more chilled and casual. There are still tourists here, but the emphasis is on the view and the company, not the selfie and the showing off, though you may still find some. The rooftop also has a restaurant, so that those who want, can dine in style with the crazy backdrop and have a photo taken by the waiter in a relaxed manner instead.

Address: Banyan Tree, 21/100 South Sathon Road, Yan Nawa, Bangkok
About ten minutes walking from Lumphini MRT Station

One of the newer Skybars around, the Park Society Rooftop at the Sofitel So hotel offers slightly different views of the town, making it hot on the lips of those who are so over chilling at the same old places. Just kidding, though it does attract a young, well moneyed crowd looking to hangout and party next to the rooftop swimming pool while gazing serenely into the leafy expanse of Lumphini park. There are regular events such as parties and pool parties, adding to the draw for Bangkok’s trendy young crowd.

Address: 2 North Sathorn Road, Bangrak, Bangkok.

Very close to Lumphini station MRT.

The Cloud 47 rooftop bar is one of the more local places on this list, being slightly harder to find for tourists and travellers, it tends to attract a slightly more down to earth, regular Thai crowd. Which is really nice, because while the other places are awesome, there is much more chance that you will be waiting for ever because of huge bus loads of tourists who go to the other ones because they are more visible, they can show off a lot there and they are well known. Not the case with this little gem which has more reasonable prices, lest tourists and a great view. There is a wall-less roof, meaning that even in the peak of monsoon, you can still come and enjoy Cloud 47

Address: 47/F, United Center, Silom Road, Bangkok
About five minutes walking walking from Sala Daeng BTS Station

Wanna do rooftops in a hipster style? We’ve got you, the Speakeasy at the Hotel Muse in Bangkok is the kind of place that has a Michelin star chef making the French inspired tapas on a fake grass terrace on a rooftop in Bangkok. Quirky. With vintage styled drinks and a beautiful view, could you ask for a better place to wax your mustache while holding a gimlet?

So whether you want to be seen with the high society, chill with the bearded bamboo bicycle crew, have a low-key night with a nice view or go all out at the pool party, there’s a rooftop Skybar for you. The pool parties get pretty wild, as do the High Society dos, so buckle up and see where the night takes you. Don’t hesitate to splash out, there’s not many opportunities like this in the rest of continental South East Asia and Singapore, Brunei, KL and Jakarta do all have their own variants, but the fact that a wildly debauched and hedonistic movie such as the hangover elected to film here stands to show that the Thais know how to party on their rooftops.

Surely there are some more which we left out, if you feel like you know a spot which deserves to be on this list then hit us up in the comment section below.
